Pentecost celebrated at landmark London venue
HTB Jesus House and Hillsong combined to put on the celebration. Worship was led by HTB’s Tim Hughes, Hillsong’s Pete Wilson and the Tribe of Judah choir from Jesus House.
Guest worship leaders Martin Smith and Israel Houghton also sang.
The event, chaired by HTB churchwarden Ken Costa, followed the success of a Pentecost celebration hosted by the three churches attended by 5,500 people at the Hammersmith Apollo last year.
Each of the leaders of the three churches spoke at the event.
Pastor Agu of Jesus House said, ‘The fact that tonight is happening at all is testimony to the awesomeness of God.
‘He brings together different churches, worship styles and cultures. So tonight even if we do nothing else, I can assure you that your father is looking down from heaven with a smile on his face.
‘He is saying to himself and to his angels, “This is pleasant; this is good; this is the church my son died for, because they are together in one place and in one accord.
‘It only takes a committed group of people to change a community, to change a city and change a nation.’
HTB Vicar Nicky Gumbel led a time of ministry, inviting the Holy Spirit to come. He said, ‘Pentecost, as you know, was the day that changed the world. The wonderful thing is that Pentecost was not a one-off event. Our prayer is tonight that we will see a new Pentecost.’
He highlighted ‘three things we can do tonight’ – to seek an encounter, study the explanation, and show the evidence.
He said, ‘Every time someone experiences the Holy Spirit it is evidence of the resurrection. Jesus is alive and he is still pouring out His Spirit on men and women today.’
Gary Clarke of Hillsong said, ‘The Spirit comes in an individual way for each and every person.
‘On the day of Pentecost... the up-close personal presence of God was outpoured to the individual. That is all because of what Jesus did on the cross.’
